hand painted designs by Red Gibbons-Lejeune

Red gained an MA with Distinction in Art History at The Courtauld Institute of Art in 2011 where she specialised in the Medieval period. She has since been teaching A-level Art History in central London and practising the art of Manuscript Illumination, training through masterclasses at The Prince's School of Traditional Arts. Her paintings are inspired by traditional crafts, from medieval manuscripts and hand drawn illustrations to geometric patterns in devotional art. Alongside painting and making she runs workshops in traditional crafts including gold leafing, pigment making and origami.

"...I find our artistic traditions rich and inspiring but not always penetrable. Through my artwork and teaching, I hope to make the world of traditional craft accessible and fun."
